The ICYM central Council of Mangalore diocese organized self employment training program ‘Swavalamban’ for the catholic youth of the diocese at ICYM youth training center, Olivet, Jeppu, on Sept 11, 2014.
The director of Catholic Communication Center Rev. Fr. Richard D’Souza inaugurated the program. He in his inaugural address emphasized on the need to be self dependent. He said “We feel that self employment reduces our dignity. Today’s youth feel that toiling hard in the hot sun is not the cup of their tea. Everyone wants to get the success in the easiest way possible. ICYM should motivate the youth to stand on their own legs in their life”.
“We should have a vision in our life. Efforts channelized over a goal will definitely bear the fruit.”, he added.
The president of Rachana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, John Monteiro rendered the key note address. He said “We have the choice of our future. Now it is the right time to make a choice. Once you make the choice and set your goal you should work tirelessly to achieve that goal.”
“There are many opportunities to be grabbed. Youth must make use of the opportunities and build their future. Smart people do right things at the right time,” he added.
President of the ICYM Mangalore Diocese Melreeda Rodrigues welcomed the gathering while secretary Venicia Rodrigues rendered the vote of thanks. Viyon Veigas compered the program.
Co-ordinator of the program and the Diocesan ICYM Vice President Derril D’souza and Diocesan Youth Director Rev. Fr. Ronald D’souza were also present at the occasion. About sixty youth across the diocese participated in the training program.
