Aug 5 : Pope Francis has instituted a Church-wide celebration of World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly in the month of July as a honor and memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus. To commemorate this, ICYM Palloti unit of Our Lady of Vailankanni Church, Farla celebrated Elderly and Grandparents' Day in the parish on 31st July 2022.

On this occasion, ICYM Youth Farla conducted a selfie contest called "ಏಕ್ ತಸ್ವಿರ್ ಆಜೊ ಆಜಿ ಸಂಗಿಂ" . The contest was only for the Farla parishioners. The participant has to send their selfie with the caption. The selfie images were judged upon the creativity of the selfie and its connection with its caption.

On July 31st after the second Mass, the Parish Priest Rev. Fr John Prakash Pereira distributed the prizes to the winners. As a memory of grandparents day and also as a consolation prize, parish distributed printed participant’s selfie to respective participant. The intention behind this contest was to make strong the bond between grandparents and grandchildren.

There was also an interview held of some elderly and grandparents from the parish titled "ಆಜೊ ಆನಿ ಆಜಿ ... ತಾಂಚಿ ಜಿಣಿ ಆನಿ ತಾಂಚಿ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ್" with few questions about their childhood experience , the difference between the past and present generation and their message to the the youth. The Parish priest and some members of Parish pastoral council gave their message and wished them on their special day.
