Oct 7 : The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Kasaragod Vicariate and Manjeshwar Unit, in association with Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangaluru, and Red Drop Mangalore, organized a blood donation camp on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Infant Jesus English Medium School, Manjeshwar.

The camp commenced with a stage program, during which Sheldon D’Souza extended a warm welcome to the gathering. The attendees included Rev. Fr. Edwin Francis Pinto, Parish Priest of Manjeshwar; Dr. Deepa Jyothi from KMC Hospital; Mr Rohan Dsouza , Animator ICYM Manjeshwar unit; Mr Nihan Sequeira, Vice President of ICYM Mangalore Diocese; Mr Avit Premson Lobo, Red Drop Coordinator of ICYM Mangalore Diocese; Mr. Vijith D’Souza, Vice President of PPP; Mrs. Cristine D’Souza, Secretary of PPP; Mrs. Reena Monteiro, All Commissions’ Coordinator ; Miss Jasmitha Monteiro, Nominated Member of ICYM Mangalore Diocese; Mr. Melwyn D’Souza, President of ICYM Kasaragod Vicariate; Miss Neema D’Silva, Secretary of ICYM Kasaragod Vicariate; Mr. Renvil Veigas, President of ICYM Manjeshwar; and Miss Renisha D’Souza, Secretary of ICYM Manjeshwar unit, who occupied prominent positions on the stage.

Dr. Deepa, the guest of honor, provided important insights into the health-related aspects of blood donation and its effects on recipients. The KMC team also presented a token of gratitude to ICYM for organizing the camp.

Rev. Fr. Edwin Francis Pinto, during his presidential address, emphasized the value of selfless service, particularly in the context of blood donation, inspiring the youth to continue their admirable contributions in this vital area. A token of gratitude was also presented to KMC Hospital for their support. Mr. Sheldon D’Souza served as the host for the program, marking the conclusion of the inaugural event.

Fr. Vishal Monis, Director of ICYM Kasaragod Vicariate; Sr. Sevrine D’Cunha, Animator of ICYM Kasaragod Vicariate; and Fr. Edwin Vincent Correa, Parish Priest & director of the ICYM Miyapadav unit, also attended the blood donation camp to express their support for the initiative.

Dr Griffith Jennifer Monteiro, MBBS a rising star from the Kasaragod Vicariate of Manjeshwar unit, played a vital role in the camp, and they were proud to have her with them. Her dedication and expertise significantly contributed to the success of the event, inspiring everyone involved.

The doctors and staff of KMC Hospital expertly coordinated the donation camp, guiding donors from the initial check-up to the blood donation process. Members of ICYM Kasaragod Vicariate and Manjeshwar unit joined hands with KMC, assisting with registration and ensuring the smooth functioning of the camp.

A total of 110 units of blood were collected, representing the highest number of donors ever recorded in past donations camps held at Kasaragod Vicariate. This incredible achievement, with contributions from all Vicariate units, Manjeshwar Parish and localities highlights the unity and generosity of individuals from diverse religious backgrounds coming together for a noble cause.

The event aimed to foster social responsibility and encourage young people to donate blood, ultimately contributing to life-saving efforts. The blood donation camp was a significant success, demonstrating the youth’s commitment to social responsibility and their desire to create a positive impact. The successful turnout and generous contributions highlighted the effectiveness of the initiative. Following the camp, a group photo was taken with the team, marking the conclusion of the event.
