Nov 17, 2024 : The Deva Matha Youth Movement (DMYM) Mogarnad demonstrated their commitment to community service through heart-warming visits to De Mercede Ashram in Paneer and Sevabhavan Ashram in Deralakatte on Sunday. The initiative aimed to bridge generational gaps and bring comfort to both young and elderly residents of these institutions.
The event saw active participation from prominent church leaders and youth coordinators, Rev. Fr. Anil Canute Dmello, who serves as both the Director of DMYM and Parish Priest of Mother of God Church, Rev. Fr. Naveen Prakash Pinto, Headmaster of Deva Matha English Medium School, Mr. Avit Premson Lobo, the Red Drop Coordinator of ICYM Mangalore Diocese, along with Mr. Prashanth Lewis, who serves as the Animator of DMYM, Mr. Melroy Dsouza, DMYM President, and Ms. Flavita Priya Pinto, DMYM Secretary.
As part of the visit, the DMYM members dedicated time to organize small yet meaningful activities aimed at uplifting the spirits of the children. These interactions, filled with joy and energy, included games, singing, and simply spending time with the children, allowing them to feel important and cherished. The members’ presence was not just a momentary distraction, but a reminder that the children were valued members of the community. Through laughter and play, the visit provided a sense of normalcy and connection that many of the children lacked.
The second phase of the visit took place at Sevabhavan Ashram, where the focus shifted to spending quality time with elderly residents. DMYM members engaged in heartfelt conversations with the seniors, listening to their stories and experiences. This interaction highlighted the organization’s understanding of the importance of providing companionship to older members of our community, who often face loneliness in their daily lives.
The members’ interactions with the elderly residents of Sevabhavan were filled with warmth and care, affirming the importance of empathy and human connection across generations. These visits are a poignant reminder of the core values of compassion and respect that should be woven into the fabric of society. By engaging with both the children and the elderly, the DMYM members demonstrated that acts of kindness, regardless of age or background, are essential in nurturing a compassionate society.
Ultimately, the visit was a heartening reminder of the profound impact of small gestures and the power of showing love and care to those who need it most—whether young or old. The day concluded with expressions of gratitude from both the ashram authorities and residents, who appreciated the time and effort invested by the DMYM members in bringing moments of joy to their institutions.
