Jan 27 : ICYM Mangalore Diocese and St Aloysius College (autonomous) , Mangalore have come forward to collaborate for blood donation under the banner of Red drop Mangalore, with a new web portal designed by the students of St Aloysius. It was launched on 26 January, 2022 at St Aloysius College, Mangalore. This portal is designed under the leadership of Rev Fr Melwin Pinto SJ - Rector of St Aloysius Institutions, Rev Dr Praveen Martis SJ - Principal St Aloysius College, Mr Vijoy Cardoza - Student council president, and Red Cross association members. This is an initiative to help those in need of blood.
ICYM Mangalore Diocese under the banner of Red Drop has helped to reach out to several needy people through Blood donation. Joel Crasta, present Red Drop Coordinator - ICYM Mangalore Diocese along with other leaders are working round the clock to arrange blood. So far many donors have volunteered to donate blood and we are happy to say that many lives have been saved.
This portal is designed for the following purpose: Posters of blood requirements will be posted under the Red Drop app and also in the web portal. This portal will help the youth to find out those in need of blood and to move forward with blood donation and to encourage others to donate blood as well.
As the web portal was being launched, Blairil Vishma Dcunha - General Secretary of ICYM Mangalore Diocese briefed the audience about the Red Drop app and its usages. This is indeed a great initiative by ICYM and St Aloysius College by launching a web portal and addressing the problem of blood shortage in Mangalore.
