Feast of the Assumption of Mother Mary and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrated by the youth of ICYM, Mangalore Diocese

Aug 20 : Bharat ki Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav was an initiative of the Government of India to commemorate 75 glorious years of progressive India and its rich history, diverse population, magnificent culture and great achievements. ICYM completed 75 years of its existence in the diocese of Mangalore. This therefore is another milestone for all the youth of Mangalore Diocese to celebrate 75th year Independence Day.

Catholics the world over celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven. The Feast of the Assumption celebrates the Catholic teaching that, at the end of her earthly life, Mary, the Mother of Jesus, was assumed body and soul into heaven. For Indian Catholics this feast was celebrated along with the Platinum jubilee of our Independence from foreign rule. To mark this auspicious occasion, the youth of the Diocese celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of Mother Mary and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on 15th of August in different parishes.

The solemn mass of the Assumption was followed by the flag hosting and reciting the preamble of Indian Constitution under “An Ode to the Preamble - Recite to Unite” initiative of ICYM Mangalore Diocese. Directors, Assistant Directors and Animators of the units, Parishioners, school children, ICYM members witnessed the occasion by being present for the program.
