Aug 28 : ICYM Bejai conducted a Badminton Tournament for the parishioners of Bejai Parish on Saturday 24th August and Sunday 25th August, 2024 at LCS Indoor Stadium, Bejai.

The tournament was held across two days, in six categories: men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The players were also divided into 3 age-groups: under 17, 18-40 and 41 and above.

The chief guests for the inauguration were Mr Sudhakar Kottary, GM of Canara Bank. Mr Sarosh, Bank Manager Canara Bank Bejai Branch and Rev Fr Denis D’Sa, Parish Priest of Thottam were the Guests of Honour. Rev Fr J. B. Saldanha, Bejai Parish Priest and ICYM Director, Rev Fr Norman Mathias, Bejai Asst Parish Priest, Rev Fr Johnson Sequeira, Principal – LCS and ICYM Assistant Director, Rev Fr Peter Mascarenhas - Resident Priest, Mr Ashok Pinto, PPP Vice President, Mrs Avitha Pinto, PPP Secretary, Ms Sonali Rodrigues, ICYM President, Mr Vion Lobo, ICYM Secretary, Mr Elton Pinto, ICYM Sports Secretary, Mr Wilson Lobo, Mrs Preethi Gomes, Mr Rohan Sequeira, all ICYM Animators, were also present on the dais.

Ms Sonali Rodrigues - ICYM President welcomed the gathering. Chief guest Mr Sudhakar and Guest of honour Rev Fr Denis D'Sa gave their messages followed by the presidential address by Rev Fr J. B Saldanha. Mr Vion Lobo - ICYM Secretary gave the inaugural vote of thanks.

The referees for the matches were Mr Virender Alva, Mr Praveen B M, Mr Sanjay Benjamin D’Cruz and Ms Ashel Maria Dsilva.

The singles matches of all categories were played on Saturday from 4 p.m. onwards, with all the finals matches being played on Sunday. All the doubles matches for all categories were played on Sunday from 9 a.m. onwards.

ICYM Episcopal City Deanery Executive members visited during the event. All the winners and runner-up players were awarded in the valedictory ceremony, by Rev Fr J.B. Saldanha, Bejai Parish Priest. Mr Elton Pinto - ICYM Sports Secretary gave the vote of thanks for the valedictory program. Ms Brinelle Fernandes and Ms Rhea Lobo - ICYM members were the MC's for the inaugural and valedictory program respectively.
