July 30 : IGNITE-2024, organized by the ICYM Kirem Unit, took place on July 21, 2024, at the Kirem Church Hall, starting at 9:00 AM. The event began with a warm welcome from ICYM President Hanson Rodrigues, who expressed gratitude to all attendees and dignitaries present.
The dignitaries on the dais included Rev. Fr. Oswald Monteiro, Head Priest and ICYM Kirem Unit Director; Rev. Fr. Alban Dsilva, Assistant Priest; Mr. Rohan Dcosta, Parish Council President; Mr. James Lobo, Parish Council Secretary; Mr. Wilfred Monis, All Commissions’ Coordinator; Mr. Richard Saldanha, Youth Commission Convener; Mrs. Vineetha Dmello, ICYM Animator; Mr. Hanson Rodrigues, ICYM President; and Mr. Denwin Dsouza, ICYM Secretary.
The event was inaugurated with the symbolic act of planting a sapling on stage in an earthen pot, representing growth and a commitment to the environment. Rev. Fr. Oswald Monteiro then delivered an inspiring speech on the role of youth in societal development, emphasizing the importance of active participation and contributions from young individuals in community building and societal progress.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by ICYM Secretary Denwin Dsouza, who acknowledged the efforts of everyone involved in making the event a success and thanked all dignitaries and participants for their presence and support.
Following the formal proceedings, a series of engaging activities were organized for the youth, including ice-breaking sessions, stage programs, talks, and various games. These activities continued until 4:30 PM and received positive feedback from the participants, who appreciated the opportunity for interaction and enjoyment.
One highlight was an interactive session on social media awareness conducted by Rev. Fr. Richard. He provided detailed information on how students can be affected by social media, the methods companies use to collect their data, and effective strategies to prevent and stop the exchange of personal information.
IGNITE-2024 was a successful event, fostering a sense of unity and purpose among the youth and reinforcing the significance of their role in societal advancement.
