Nov 18, 2024 : ICYM Mangalore Diocese in association with The Department of English at Besant Women's College, and IQAC Department Organized a Hair Donation Drive titled "Donate Curls and Spread Smiles" at the college auditorium on November 4. The event, was a tribute to the late Prof. Saritha M. former lecturer of History on her 60th birth anniversary and aimed to raise awareness about compassion and social responsibility.
The Chief Guest Sri Manel Annappa Nayak, President of WNES, inaugurated the event and spoke about Prof. Saritha's contributions to education and her students' lives. He encouraged attendees to prioritize their health and participate in such meaningful initiatives.
Mr. Dharmaraj Ammunje, the husband of the late Prof. Saritha M., delivered a heartfelt address during the Hair Donation Drive organized in her memory. Sharing personal anecdotes, he highlighted her unwavering dedication to her students, recounting how she took immense pride in their achievements and well-being. He described Prof. Saritha as a compassionate and principled educator who celebrated her students' successes as her own, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Mr. Ammunje expressed profound gratitude to the Department of English, IQAC and ICYM for honoring her legacy through this meaningful initiative, emphasizing the significance of such community-driven efforts in fostering unity and compassion.
Dr. Manjula K.T., the Vice President of WNES, and the Correspondent of the college presided over the event and shared heartfelt memories of her association with Prof. Saritha, highlighting her unwavering dedication to teaching and discipline.

The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and parents, with donors contributing their hair to support individuals experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions. The gesture of compassion was further enhanced by a touching video tribute to Prof. Saritha, edited by Miss Priya Shetty, which brought her legacy to life for the audience.
Special guests Rev. Fr. Ashwin Lohith Cardoza Director ICYM Mangalore Diocese and President Winston Joel Sequeira emphasized the importance of social responsibility in their addresses, inspiring attendees to contribute to causes that bring dignity and hope to others.
Programme Coordinator Miss Jincy Thomas played a pivotal role in organizing the event, inspiring students with her persuasive efforts and also compèring the programme.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Preetha Bhandary, Head of the Department of English, who expressed gratitude to all the donors and participants. The initiative left a lasting impression, fostering a spirit of unity and generosity among all present.
