Dec 10 : The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Kasaragod Deanery, in collaboration with the ICYM Kasaragod unit, organized the “Kasaragod Varado Cricket Championship 2024” on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Madonna AUP School ground, located beside Our Lady of Dolours Church, Kasaragod. The event featured cricket matches for both women and men. The competition took place from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

The inaugural ceremony of the Kasaragod Varado Cricket Championship 2024 was hosted by Miss Nishal D'Souza, who warmly welcomed the gathering. The distinguished guests on the dais included :

In his presidential message to the players, the Director of the ICYM Kasaragod Unit emphasized the importance of sports in building character and fostering unity. He congratulated the youth for their enthusiastic participation in large numbers and extended his best wishes to all the participants.

This marked the first time in the history of ICYM that a women's cricket tournament was organized. The event was officially inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Louis Cuitina, Br. Steevan, Mr. Richard Crasta, Sr. Severin D'cunha, and Sr. Shobidha, who symbolically commenced the competition by playing cricket. With this, the inaugural program officially concluded.

The most anticipated moment of the event began with the start of the men's and women's cricket matches. The matches were organized as knockout rounds, featuring 19 men's teams and 10 women's teams. The games commenced with players showcasing their skills, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship.

During the matches, Fr. Vishal Monis, Director of ICYM Kasaragod Deanery, along with Mr. Nihal, Vice President of ICYM Mangalore Diocese and ICYM Kasaragod Varado Representative, graced the event with their presence. Their involvement added a special touch, inspiring the participants and emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in sports.

As the matches concluded and the winners were finalized, the closing ceremony was led by Miss Ashwitha. Rev. Fr. Louis Cuitina, Director of ICYM Kasaragod Unit, delivered an inspiring message, highlighting the success of the event, the enthusiasm for cricket, and the spirit of togetherness it fostered. Fr. Louis congratulated the winners and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the management team for their efforts in making the event a grand success.

Special tokens of gratitude were presented to the Headmistress of Madonna AUP School and the Supervisor of Madonna Convent for providing the venue, which made the successful organization of this event possible. Tokens of appreciation were also presented to all the participating units, as well as to the referees and the commentator for their invaluable contributions. Additionally, a special token of appreciation was presented to the ICYM Kasaragod Unit on behalf of the ICYM Kasaragod Vicariate, recognizing their initiative and efforts in organizing this remarkable event.

It was time to announce the winners of the KASARAGOD VARADO CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP 2024. The event coordinators, Mr. Mathew Crasta (Men's Cricket) and Miss Ashintha Crasta (Women's Cricket), announced the results:

The winners were presented with cash prizes and trophies, celebrating their remarkable achievements.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Melwin D'Souza, who expressed gratitude to all the participants, guests, and organizers. The ICYM members then sang the ICYM anthem, bringing the event to a close and marking the successful conclusion of the Kasaragod Varado Cricket Championship 2024.
